Fitness and Women Over 40 - Heidi's Journey

I used to love working out in my 20’s. After getting married and having three kids, “life” took over and I just stopped. I’ve never been what some would consider overweight. But I was mushy, soft, had a belly and loose arms. I always wore loose clothes to hide.


At 42 years old I only weighed 124 pounds but had 35% body fat. With my personal life uncertain at the time and I didn't feel good about myself. I decided to do something to feel better about my body.


At first, I joined a big commercial gym. I wasn’t sure what to do and was embarrassed to ask. I found myself only doing cardio and not getting the results I wanted.


After a while I started looking for more structure and was happy to find Orangetheory. I found I was accountable because I had to sign up for classes. Plus, I liked they had structured workouts.


It was during this time that life tried to take the wheel again. With three kids and now a single mom, it was tough to juggle all the things. I had one in competitive cheer, one in horse riding lessons and another who was in a traveling little league. It would have been easy to give up the gym, because I was very busy. But this time – I didn’t.


Instead, I started waking up at 4 AM and getting to the gym by 5 AM. After my first 5 AM session, I never looked back. Even though it was hard to get up early, no matter how crazy my day got, I had already worked out. I had already accomplished something important. Life could not derail me this time or keep me from working out.


With a routine solidly in place, it was time to graduate from OT and go after the physique I had always wanted.


I started looking for a personal trainer.
