Prioritizing Self Care is a Trending Lifestyle

Updated: Nov 13, 2023

Wellness trends can look a little different year after year. In 2022, we took our hot girl walks, ate our greens in powdered form, opened up about mental health struggles on social media, and some tried quiet quitting jobs in the name of less stress.

The good news is 2023 continued emphasizing wellness and the critical need for self-care.

Practices that were once demonized as "selfish" are now embraced as vital for mental and physical health. Pacing calendars with priorities, highlighting exercise, paying attention to nutrition, and recognizing we control our own health have become the norm.

Current Health & Wellness Trends

The fact is there are countless practices that boost wellbeing and help us feel our absolute best. But in 2023, there are a few stand-out strategies that I personally implemented into my life and that have dominated the wellness world—and knowing them can help you get on or revamp a healthy routine.

Spiritual Well Being

2023 has seen an uptick in spiritual wellbeing. More people are experimenting with the philosophies of balancing body, mind, and soul.

Spiritual wellbeing represents a term that refers to a person's "soul" - or sense of connection to something larger than themselves, a set of spiritual beliefs, or a sense of meaning and purpose in life.

This aspect of wellbeing is often associated with feelings of peace, reducing stress and anxiety, and it can play a key role in overall health and wellness.

In the past, spiritual wellbeing was relegated mostly to formal organizations, such as religions, but it can also be achieved through one’s own practice.

Some techniques include:

  • meditation

  • breathwork

  • gratitude practices

  • martial arts

Bio Tech Wellness Tools

With more access to labs that offer blood testing to individuals, rather than only with a physician's request, many have taken their health into their own hands. We can connect directly to apps and digital platforms for quicker, more efficient results.

Self-care in part means taking steps to heal ourselves from the inside. Among other things, right at our fingertips we can learn about vitamin and mineral deficiencies that can be addressed through nutrition and supplements when necessary.

In home IV therapies have become popular and provide an array of health benefits such as:

  • boost immune systems

  • infuse vitamins to combat deficiencies

  • boosters that improve skin and hair health

Also big in 2023 are red light therapy devices, microcurrent facial tools, and lasers that can be used at home. These tools are big right now and for good reason - they work! A quick search on the internet can lead you to quality, sometimes surprisingly affordable tools that can be purchased for safe in-home use.

Micro Workouts

Micro workouts are on the rise. These one-minute dances and fitness challenges once only found on TikTok, are now being suggested by fitness trainers and other health professionals.

Removing the time barrier to exercise is a major factor in the growing popularity of this wellness trend. This bite-size, low-intensity format makes it easier to squeeze movement into more moments throughout the day.

Your Micro Workout might include:

  • a morning dance with your favorite influencer

  • a quick set of push-ups and squats before lunch

  • an evening yoga session to help you wind down and de-stress

  • A quick walk to the corner and back

These short takes on fitness add up to big results and are a delightful and fun way to get moving. This month we have a gym wide challenge to simply "move more", whatever that means to you.

Prioritizing Circadian Rhythm

Sleep syncing is a wellness trend that is gaining popularity. This involves adjusting your sleep cycle to the rhythms of nature (like the sun or moon) and tuning it with your circadian rhythm.

Some studies have shown that sleep syncing can help people fall asleep quicker, as well as reduce feelings of stress and anxiety, which are often associated with poor sleep patterns.

You can start sleep syncing by:

  • setting up a regular sleep schedule

  • going to bed and waking up at the same time every day

This helps put your body on a regular sleep cycle so that it becomes more used to waking up and going to sleep at certain times.

Self-care is the perfect fitness program and applies to everyone. It is organic. It allows you to listen to your body and give it what it needs most from day to day.

This crucial mindset is trending for good reason. Taking a refreshed approach to views on health and fitness is a smart, healthy choice we will not regret.
